Ages 17–30 | Open to Youth from Across the NWT

Application Deadline: June 6, 2025

Northern Youth Leadership’s Leadership Development Program (LDP) is a two-week, land-based leadership experience for youth ages 17–30 from across the Northwest Territories. Set along the breathtaking Keele River, this immersive program helps build the next generation of strong northern leaders.

Participants will gain certified, employable skills in:

  • 🛶 Canoe tripping and camping

  • 🌊 Moving water paddling

  • 🧭 Canoe rescue and water safety

Why This Program Matters:

The LDP is designed to support youth from small, remote, and marginalized communities who often face barriers to employment and training. By covering all travel, food, gear, and participation costs, the program ensures equitable access and removes financial obstacles.

Through guided on-the-land learning, youth will:

  • Build practical outdoor and leadership skills

  • Strengthen cultural connections through traditional knowledge and mentorship

  • Grow their confidence, resilience, and readiness for land-based jobs and future opportunities

Delivered in partnership with Black Feather, the LDP empowers youth to step into leadership roles in their communities, contribute to environmental stewardship, and explore career or entrepreneurial paths rooted in the land.
