Applications Now Open – Protecting Our Lands Camp 2026
Northern Youth Leadership is excited to share that applications are now open for the Protecting Our Lands Camp, a land-based canoe journey taking place this spring in partnership with Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ First Nation.
This program is open to students from Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ Regional School who are interested in joining a meaningful on-the-land experience along the Deh Cho (Mackenzie River).
Program Dates: May 29 – June 7(Please note: we have a contingency plan in place in the event of a late spring or changing ice/river conditions.)
The Journey
Students will paddle from Deh Gáh Got’îe to Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́, with a stop in Tthets’éhk’edélı̨ along the way.
Throughout the trip, youth will:
Learn canoeing, camping, and wilderness skills
Spend time on the land in a guided canoe journey
Engage with Elders and knowledge holders
Take part in monitoring activities with the AAROM Guardians
Learn about the history, stories, and significance of the places they travel through
Contribute to a film project capturing the journey, voices, and learning from camp
Applications
Who can apply:
Youth enrolled in Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ Regional High School ages 11-19
Students can apply by completing the application and submitting it through their school/teacher.
We will review applications May 1, 2026, a follow-up email will be sent with medical forms, due May 15, along with a welcome package, packing list, and gear information to help students prepare.
